How we make money

Value-Position is free to use. Some vendors pay us to be featured in our articles, and some links earn us a commission. This page explains exactly what that changes, and what it doesn’t.

Three kinds of relationship

  • Sponsored: the vendor pays for placement in our articles.
  • Partner: we may earn a commission if you buy through our link, at no extra cost to you.
  • Editor’s pick: a tool we chose to highlight. Nobody paid for it.

What sponsors and partners get

  • They appear in more of the articles where they genuinely fit.
  • A labelled box in those articles, with the strengths our data shows for them, a few highlights in their own words (shown as theirs), and a link to their site.
  • Occasional in-depth articles about them, clearly labelled.
  • Longer write-ups that lead with the strengths our data supports.

What they can never get

  • A change to our data, scores, tables or rankings. Ranked lists are computed from the data; the sponsored box sits above them, never inside.
  • Removal of their limitations: every article keeps its “less suited for” notes.
  • A place in an article about a category or industry they don’t serve.
  • An unlabelled placement.
  • Any change to tool dossiers, listings, comparisons or the positioning wizard.

How you can tell

Every article with a sponsored or partner placement opens with a disclosure. The placement itself carries a “Sponsored” or “Partner” label, and its links are marked as sponsored for search engines. A disclosure stays on an article even after the relationship ends.
