AI quantity takeoffs and drawing discrepancy checks for contractors and consultants

By Civils.ai · HQ Singapore · 4.5/5 Value-Position score (estimate)

Positioning guardrails

Best for

  • Civil and groundworks contractors measuring quantities — areas, lengths, volumes, counts — from PDF drawings.
  • Consultants running automated cross-discipline checks (civil vs landscape, architectural vs structural) before issue.
  • Bid, tender and whole-life carbon teams that need material takeoffs in Excel or annotated PDF quickly.
  • Firms with repeatable PDF takeoff and drawing-check volume that want human-QA-reviewed output they can defend.

Ideal size: 5–100 people · Contractor or consultant with repeatable PDF takeoff and drawing-check workflows

Not for

  • Teams needing BIM/model-native quantity extraction or 3D clash detection — Civils.ai is PDF-first.
  • Very low-volume users doing fewer than about 10 takeoffs a month, where per-sheet allowances add up.
  • Organisations requiring on-premise deployment or deep estimating/ERP suite integration — only API/MCP, on Enterprise.

Bottom line

Civils.ai is an AI takeoff and drawing-check platform for civil and groundworks contractors and consultants. Upload PDF drawings, prompt in plain English, and AI agents measure areas, lengths, volumes and counts and run configurable discrepancy checks with cited sources, exporting to Excel or annotated PDF. Frequently asked questions

What does Civils.ai automate for a construction team?

Two jobs. First, quantity takeoffs: you upload PDF drawings, type a scope such as 'measure all paving and landscaping areas shown in legend', and AI agents measure areas, lengths, volumes and counts, with results shown on annotated drawings and downloadable to Excel or PDF. Second, discrepancy checking: the AI reviews drawings and documents, cross-checks sheets against each other and flags Critical, High, Medium and Low risk issues in minutes. Checks can be customised and saved as reusable templates.

How accurate are the takeoffs, and who checks the output?

The vendor reports over 97% accuracy for takeoffs from modern PDFs; hand-drawn or pre-1975 drawings are more challenging and that accuracy is not guaranteed. All AI-extracted data goes through a human-in-the-loop QA review, and workflows aim to return results within 24 hours, with email notification when a run completes.

What does Civils.ai cost?

Starter is US$90 per month per user with 10 takeoffs a month, unlimited standard AI searches and checks, 2 GB storage and email support. Professional is US$270 per month per user with 30 takeoffs, 50 GB storage, revision requests from comments and priority support. Enterprise is custom with volume pricing, custom allowances, API and MCP integrations, SSO/SAML and a custom DPA. There are no setup fees and Starter and Professional can be cancelled anytime.

Is my project data used to train AI models?

No. The pricing page states 'Your IP stays yours — never used to train models'. Uploaded data is stored in a relational database and cloud object storage, documents are anonymised and un-anonymised data is viewable only from the account that uploaded it. Data is transmitted over TLS with encryption at rest, and you can delete uploaded projects or documents at any time.

How are takeoffs counted and what happens if we run out?

Takeoffs are counted per drawing sheet, based only on the sheet's scale: up to 1:365 counts as one takeoff, 1:366–1:505 as two, 1:506–1:720 as three and above 1:720 as five. You are notified when you reach your allowance and can either top up or upgrade to the next tier; the vendor states there are no surprise bills.

Can we integrate Civils.ai with our own systems and identity provider?

On the Enterprise plan the vendor lists API and MCP integrations plus SSO/SAML, custom data-processing agreements, security questionnaires and procurement reviews. Standard plans are self-serve in-app, with export to Excel and annotated PDF. Multi-step agent workflows that go beyond standard searches may be priced separately on a custom basis.
