Positioning guardrails
Best for
- Security and IT leaders who need full visibility into sanctioned and unsanctioned AI use across browsers, desktops and agents.
- Teams that must stop PII, IP, deal terms or source code from reaching public models.
- Organizations extending governance to autonomous agents and MCP-based workflows.
Ideal size: 500–10,000+ employees people · Security-mature org with managed endpoints (Intune/JAMF) and a CISO-owned AI policy
Not for
- Buyers who only want network/SASE-layer inspection of AI traffic.
- Microsoft-only shops already satisfied with Purview's Microsoft-scoped visibility.
- Companies with no employee AI usage to govern.

AI features shipped
Purpose-built small language models read whole prompts and files in context, report 96% greater accuracy than regex and classify in under 200ms. The product governs AI use inline (warn, nudge, block), scores apps for training and hosting risk, and extends controls to agents over MCP, with prompt-injection blocking listed as coming soon.

Bottom line
Harmonic Security is an AI Governance and Control platform. It discovers every AI tool a workforce uses across browser, desktop, endpoint and agent surfaces, classifies each prompt or file with purpose-built small language models, and applies inline controls that warn, nudge or block in under 200ms. Deployed in minutes via Intune, JAMF or Kandji, it delivers day-one AI inventory, sensitive-data and training-risk insight, agent permissions and full prompt audit logs. SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA attested; EU or US hosting.
Frequently asked questions
How long does deployment take and when do we see value?
Harmonic says deployment takes minutes through Intune, JAMF, Kandji or Group Policy, using a browser extension plus desktop coverage and an MCP gateway for Windows, macOS and Linux. Most teams see first insight in about 30 minutes, and day one gives a full inventory of AI tools in use across the organization. The vendor states that by the end of the first week most security teams have a clearer picture of AI data exposure, with no proxy redesign or certificate work required.
Which AI surfaces and tools does Harmonic actually cover?
Prompt-level visibility and controls span 1,000+ AI applications, including ChatGPT, Codex, Claude, Claude Code, Gemini, Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Perplexity and M365 Copilot. Coverage reaches browser extensions, desktop apps and IDEs, command-line interfaces, and API calls made from scripts or other applications. The Command tier adds MCP client and server discovery plus granular permissions over what an agent may read, write or execute, and applies the same sensitive-data detection inside agentic workflows.
How is this different from DLP or SASE vendors?
Harmonic argues pattern-matching DLP cannot tell a draft email from a deal memo because prompts are unstructured, so it classifies meaning with small language models rather than regex, claiming 96% greater accuracy with analysis under 200ms. Against SASE tools it argues network inspection misses what never crosses the corporate network: Claude Desktop, Cursor, local MCP servers, embedded AI, free-tier accounts and personal devices. Harmonic sits on the device and inside the AI surface, and also governs the agent layer.
Does Harmonic train models on our data?
No. The vendor states on its security page that it does not train on customer data, and its about page repeats that commitment alongside dedicated tenant isolation, EU hosting by default with US options, and a published trust center. Sensitive-data classification is done by Harmonic's own small language models, and the audit log is available for customers who want to stream interaction data to their own data lake.
What does Harmonic cost?
Public pricing is not published. The platform is sold as three capability tiers: Explore for discovery, classification and usage intelligence; Guide, the most popular, which adds endpoint coverage and inline coaching; and Command, which extends guardrails to agents and MCP. Full prompt audit log streaming is listed as an add-on on the comparison table. No seat tiers are published, so budgets must be scoped with the vendor.
