Positioning guardrails

Best for

  • Agencies and consultancies reporting on many client accounts, with bulk actions, custom templates and white-labeling
  • Growing businesses that want KPI dashboards, goals and automated reporting without a data warehouse
  • Teams that want plain-language answers from live, governed metrics through an AI Analyst
  • AI implementers grounding Claude, ChatGPT or n8n on trusted business metrics via MCP
  • Solo analysts who want BI plus API and LLM connectivity on an open platform

Ideal size: 1–50 people · Growth-stage business or agency with no in-house data team

Not for

  • Data teams that need code-first, warehouse-native modelling and custom SQL pipelines
  • Enterprises requiring on-premise or air-gapped deployment
  • Buyers who want unlimited AI usage for a flat fee, since AI is metered in credits
  • Companies looking for an industry-specific vertical suite out of the box

Bottom line

Databox is an agentic analytics platform that unifies 130+ apps, databases and spreadsheets into one governed metric layer, then adds an AI Analyst (Genie), MCP server, agents and automations. It is aimed at agencies, growing businesses and AI implementers that need client-ready dashboards, automated reporting and plain-language answers without a data warehouse. There is a free-forever plan; paid plans start at $71/month billed annually and add-ons cover white-labeling, SSO and AI credits.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Databox cost?

There is a free-forever plan with 1 user, 3 data sources and 50 AI credits a month. Analyst is $71/month billed annually, Team Core $199/month and Team Scale $319/month billed annually, Agency starts at $79/month billed annually plus client packs, and Custom is quoted. Databox does not charge per seat. Add-ons include AI credit top-ups ($200/month), white-labeling ($80/month), advanced security ($40/month) and OKRs ($14/month).

How quickly can we get value from Databox?

Fast. You can start on the free plan without a credit card, connect cloud apps in one click, and get first answers the same day. Paid plans add hourly sync, unlimited dashboards and reports, custom data integrations and API access. Agency and Custom engagements with Databox experts take longer because they include data and semantic layer setup, solution development and enablement.

Does Databox replace Power BI, Tableau or Looker Studio?

It can do either. Teams without a BI tool use Databox to replace spreadsheets and one-off dashboards. Teams already running Power BI, Tableau or Looker Studio usually run Databox alongside them: those tools serve analysts, while Databox serves everyone else with self-serve KPIs, scorecards, alerts, automated reporting and AI summaries. Databox works with or without a data warehouse.

Is the AI included, and is our data used to train models?

AI features are metered in monthly credits included on every plan (50 on Free up to 1,000 on Team Scale), with credit top-ups sold as an add-on. Databox states on its own site that your numbers are never used to train AI models, and that answers are permission-aware so users only see data they are allowed to see.

Does Databox support MCP for Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools?

Yes. Databox ships an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that connects Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, n8n or any MCP-compatible client to your governed Databox metrics using an API key, with setup quoted at about a minute. MCP is available on all paid plans at no extra cost; free-plan accounts must upgrade to use it.

What support is included?

Every paid plan includes chat and email support; the free plan does not. The Custom plan adds security and compliance review, data and semantic layer setup, solution development and deployment, AI implementation and team enablement with Databox experts. A public help centre, API documentation and product updates are available to everyone.
